In the Early 1600s, devout churchgoing members of the Anglican Church established by Henry VIII, became dissatisfied with the progress the Church was making in divesting itself of Roman Catholic practices, particularly in separating from a central authority, like the Pope in Rome whom they despised. Now they found themselves under an Anglican Church leader, the nation’s monarch, instead.
