Shortly before 0100 hours GMT on September 11 (note the date) a large part of the town of Derna, Libya, was swept away by floodwaters following the collapse of the Mansour and Derna dams on Wadi Derna. Estimates of the casualties vary. Sadly 11,000 dead seems to be at the lower end of the range of credible casualty estimates, with 20,000 at the upper end.
