The Index of Prohibited Books (Latin Index librorum prohibitorum) was a list of publications prohibited by the Catholic Church, created in 1559 by Pope Paul IV. The list was kept updated until the mid-20th century and was suppressed by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on 4 February 1966.
