In order for motivation to occur, according to the Expectancy Theory of Motivation, three conditions must be present: An observable reward, knowledge of the actions to be taken to achieve the reward and finally, confidence that the operator can carry out the actions needed. If all three are present, motivation will then move the operator to begin taking those actions – thus motivation occurs.
